It’s fair enough to have questions when it comes to Dental implants . As a cosmetic procedure performed here at Hawthorn East Dental, we do get asked the range of questions. Having those questions answered helps our clients feel more comfortable coming for their planned procedure.
If you have further questions about dental implants in Melbourne, aside from those we discuss below, you’re welcome to call us on (03) 9882 6606
Q1 – How long does a dental implant procedure take?
There are two time frames for dental implant procedures. There’s the number of dental appointments needed, which is generally 3 to 4. Then there’s the amount of time until the process is complete which can take 6to 9 months.
Here’s what each visit entails:
- Visit one – consultation and assessment
- Visit two – the surgical phase
- Visit three – the prosthetic phase
- Visit four – the review phase
You are always welcome to call us between appointments should you have any further questions.
Q2 – How are implants fixed into the mouth?
Dental implants have two parts – the fixture made of medical-grade titanium (the screw) which, during the surgical phase is fitted. The fixture is embedded in your bone and sits in your gum.
The second part is the prosthesis (the natural looking tooth) that is colour matched to your own teeth and this is fitted during the prosthetic phase.
Q3 – How long do dental implants last?
The wonderful thing about dental implants is that they last up to 15 years and sometimes a lifetime if they are given the proper care needed and you attend regular dental check ups. As a comparison, bridges last approximately 7 to 12 years.
Q4 –What do Dental Implants in Melbourne cost?
As you can appreciate, the cost will depend on a few factors. The experience of the dentist plays a part in the cost, the state of your oral health and the number of teeth you need replaced. Your private health insurance may also cover some of the cost.
We recommend you speak with your health insurance provider and consider our smile.com.au insurance for added benefits.
Further, call Hawthorn East Dental for an initial dental implants assessment. You can then better budget for the procedure.
Q5 – Are dental implants safe?
Dental implants have been performed for over 50 years and are considered a safe tooth replacement procedure. Like any surgical procedure there is always a risk and other factors such as your overall health, oral health and oral hygiene can affect the procedure and outcome.
That’s why an initial consultation and assessment is the first best step to find out if Dental implants are right for you.
