Veneers
Here at Hawthorn East Dental we take pride in providing our patients with high quality cosmetic dentistry. Cosmetic Dentistry is a special interest of Dr David Cao’s and is done to a meticulously high standard leaving you with a smile to be proud of! It is our job as your cosmetic dentist in Hawthorn East to ensure you leave happy and making full use of your new smile.
One way we can help you to achieve this is through the use of Veneers, whether that be with porcelain veneers or composite veneers. Veneers are natural looking, tooth coloured materials that are placed on the outer surface of your teeth allowing us to give you your own natural yet beautiful smile.
There are many issues you may have with your teeth that can simply be corrected with Veneers.
Crooked Teeth
Veneers are often able to be used as an alternative to orthodontics to correct tilts and make your teeth appear straighter. It is a quicker, simpler and more economical way to greatly improve your smile without the hassle and annoyance of braces! This is not a suitable solution to all crooked teeth. But in some situations, it is a perfect option to correct mal-aligned teeth that are holding you back from your best smile. So, come in for a visit to discuss your personal cosmetic dentistry options regarding crooked teeth!
Discoloured Teeth
Tooth discolouration can significantly impact your smile, whether it be staining, old mismatched fillings or discolouration that has come about through erosion or heavy wear. By using cosmetic dentistry we can help you cover those affected teeth with veneers, choosing an appropriate shade to help achieve a brighter yet natural looking smile!
Worn Or ‘Gappy’ Teeth
Tooth shape is a major component of your smile. Gaps between your teeth or shorter, worn teeth may be holding you back from putting your best smile forward. As your cosmetic dentist, we are able to improve the function and aesthetics of your teeth, which cannot always be done through braces. By using veneers, we can often give you a fuller, more mature smile. Filling in those gaps is easy and simple with veneers, leaving you with better chewing function and a more confident smile.
Choose from either Composite or Porcelain veneers-
Composite Veneers
Composite veneers are a specialized dental resin that is bonded to the outer surface of your natural tooth. Composite veneers conserve your tooth structure and are a very economicaly pleasing way to revamp your smile! They are stable and allow us to improve the colour shape and correct minor alignment issues. Leaving you with a brand new smile and new found confidence. For composite veneers there are often three visits needed.
Visit One
Comprehensive Smile Assessment including pre-operative photos are taken. All suitable cosmetic dentistry options are discussed along with their expected results.
Visit Two
Necessary teeth are cleaned and prepared. The composite resin is then applied after selecting a shade that compliments surrounding teeth. The resin is hardened, contoured, shaped and polished and any adjustments for your personal preferences are made.
Visit Three
A review appointment is scheduled for a few weeks later to assess your smile, teeth and surrounding gums and we can follow up on any questions that you may have. Once we are both happy with the result post-operative photos are taken and shared with you.
Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are thin, tooth coloured laminates that are bonded to the outer surface of your teeth. Our porcelain veneers are crafted in a local, precision dental lab. They are tailor made and unique to your teeth, fitting perfectly to your lightly prepared tooth surface. Using porcelain as the material allows us to match your natural tooth’s shine and translucency creating a pristine look. For porcelain veneers there are often four to five visits needed.
Visit One
All suitable cosmetic dentistry options are discussed along with their expected results. Comprehensive Smile Assessment including pre-operative photos and models are taken. These are for the local dental lab to create a mock-up.
Visit Two
The mock-up is back from the lab and ready to be discussed! Any modifications are noted and a shade is selected.
Visit Three
Necessary teeth are cleaned and prepared and any old and leaky fillings are removed. A high accuracy impression is taken to send to the local, precision dental lab for the porcelain veneers to be crafted. Temporary veneers are created at the appointment made of a specialized tooth coloured acrylic. These are temporarily bonded to the prepared teeth while we wait for the permanent veneers! The temporary veneers are contoured, shaped and polished and any adjustments are made.
Visit Four
After your temporary veneers are easily removed we can then proceed to try in your brand new veneers! We do this with our special try in cement. This gives you a good understanding of what the final product will look like. The veneers are discussed and reviewed. Once you are happy with the appearance your veneers will be applied with a stable specialized tooth coloured cement. Any adjustments for your personal preferences are made and reviewed.
